Confused about what low calorie sweeteners are, how much you can consume and whether they are safe?
The British Nutrition Foundation made a film about low calorie sweeteners to answer these questions.
Low calorie sweeteners are ingredients, which have far fewer calories than sugar, but still give a sweet taste to food and drinks. They are also known as artificial sweeteners, which include Aspartame, Acesulfame-K and Sucralose.
Consumers remain unsure about the safety of these sweeteners, even though they have been subject to extensive scientific research and approved as safe by authorities such as the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
